Migration Skepticism Test

A recent report from YouGov suggests that worries over migration is the most important, or second most important, issue for voters in 9 out of 11 EU countries. However, the debate over migration is often marred by straw men on both sides, with pro-migration advocates accusing the other side of being racist, xenophobic, and intolerant, while people skeptical of migration accuse their adversaries of being naive, deceitful, or even traitors to their country.

This test aims to be free of spin and political agendas. It will measure your attitudes to migration on six domains. Three of these were identified by the professor of philosophy at Harvard University, Robert Nozick. The other three have recently surfaced in connection with the migration debate.

For each of the following items, indicate your level of agreement.

Question 1 of 30

I suspect that a significant proportion of migrants to my country come here because they want to make use of the social and/or welfare services here.

The IDR-MST is a polling and research instrument for measuring voter skepticism in relation to migration issues. It is based on independent polling reports that show worries over migration is the most important, or second most important, issue for voters in 9 out of 11 EU countries. The IDR-MST was created to measure skepticism on 6 distinct parameters in relation to migration. It aims to be agenda-free, and to accurately reproduce the respondent’s attitudes toward migration.

This test has been made with the aid of professional political analysts and respondents from all sides of the political spectrum. Note, however, that even professional political tests used in academic research are only approximations. No test ever devised can designate your political allegiances with complete certainty or replace familiarizing yourself with the politics of your country in depth.
