Sexual Attitudes Test

Based on the work of Clyde and Susan Hendrick

Using factor analysis, the psychologists Hendrick and Hendrick discovered that people's attitudes towards sex could be mapped along four empirical domains. More strikingly, they also discovered that men and women differed widely on these domains. While controversial, their findings have repeatedly been replicated and shown to be psychometrically valid.

The IDR-SAT© is the property of IDR Labs International. The original research was provided by Hendrick and Hendrick. The BSAS is the property of Hendrick, Hendrick, and Reich. The IDR-SAT© is not the equivalent of the BSAS.

The Brief Sexual Attitudes Test (BSAS) is a scientific and statistically validated instrument for measuring sexual attitudes across populations. The Brief Sexual Attitudes Test does not address all possible sexual attitudes and does not purport to be exhaustive. Contrary to popular belief, the Brief Sexual Attitudes Test has repeatedly revealed significant differences in the sexual attitudes of biological men and women. The original Sexual Attitudes Test instrument is dated, yet modern iterations have updated the original research and largely confirmed its findings in the 21st century. The statistical analyses informing the test are broadly agreed to be scientifically valid.

Although all are designed to measure sexual attitudes, the IDR-SAT© should not be confused with the BSAS and other “Sexual Attitude Tests,” as authored by alternative research organizations. However, all are professionally-designed personality tests (or inventories) meant for measuring sexual attitudes in the Western world. The IDR-SAT© is the property of IDR Labs International. The original research was provided by Hendrick and Hendrick and updated by Hendrick, Hendrick, and Reich.
