The IDRLabs Death Note Test is inspired by psychometric methodology and based on research into the characters in the Death Note.
The test provides feedback such as the following:
Light Yagami, the protagonist of "Death Note," is an extraordinarily intelligent and ambitious high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing their name in it. Driven by a desire to create a utopia free of crime, Light adopts the persona of "Kira" and begins a crusade to eliminate those he deems unworthy of life. His sense of justice is extreme and unwavering, bordering on megalomania, as he sees himself as a god-like figure destined to reshape the world. While he is clearly cunning and able to deceive those around him into believing his curated persona, he is conceited about his ability to evade the detectives who want to bring him to justice. Light's cunning, charisma, and strategic mind make him a formidable adversary, but his ruthless methods and growing detachment from humanity ultimately lead to his downfall.
L: L, whose real name is L Lawliet, is the enigmatic and brilliant detective in "Death Note," tasked with uncovering the identity of Kira. Renowned for his unparalleled deductive abilities, L employs unconventional methods and has a unique demeanor, often seen sitting in a peculiar crouched position and consuming copious amounts of sweets. Despite his eccentricities, L is highly perceptive, logical, and tenacious, displaying a cat-and-mouse intellect that matches the challenges put up by Light Yagami at every turn. His disheveled appearance and aloof personality mask a deeply analytical mind and a relentless commitment to justice, making him one of the most formidable forces against Kira’s reign of terror.
Ryuk: Ryuk is a Shinigami (death god) who drops a Death Note, a powerful notebook that allows its user to kill anyone whose name is written in it, into the human world out of boredom. His character is marked by a nonchalant and often mischievous demeanor, finding entertainment in the chaos and moral dilemmas caused by the Death Note. Ryuk is indifferent to human affairs and morality, acting as an observer and occasionally offering cryptic advice to the humans who possess the Death Note. Despite his apathetic nature, Ryuk is not inherently malicious and adheres to the rules of the Death Note, making him a complex figure whose presence both fuels and complicates the central conflict between Light Yagami and his adversaries.
Miss Amane, often referred to as Misa-Misa, is a charismatic and passionately driven character in "Death Note." As a popular idol and the Second Kira, Misa becomes infatuated with Light Yagami after he saves her life and later helps her take revenge on the criminals who murdered her family. Her unwavering devotion to Light leads her to use the Death Note willingly, becoming a fervent supporter of Kira's mission to rid the world of criminals. Despite her bubbly and playful demeanor, Misa's character is marked by a tragic past and an intense desire for justice, which she believes Kira embodies. Her emotional volatility and blind loyalty to Light make her a complicated and morally ambiguous figure in the series, adding layers of conflict and tragedy to her character arc.
Near, whose real name is Nate River, is one of the central characters in the latter part of the "Death Note" series. He is a highly intelligent and calculating individual, succeeding L as the head of the SPK (Special Provision for Kira). Near shares many of L's quirks and mannerisms, such as his love for sweets and his unique sitting posture. His deductive abilities are exceptional, allowing him to challenge Light Yagami in the battle of wits over the identity of Kira. Near is characterized by his calm and detached demeanor, often shown playing with toys during serious discussions, which belies his sharp intellect and strategic mind. Despite his young age, Near proves to be a formidable adversary to Light, using his analytical skills and resourcefulness to uncover Kira's true identity and bring the story to its gripping conclusion.
Mello, whose real name is Mihael Keehl, is a complex and emotionally driven character in the Death Note series. As a former associate of L, Mello is fiercely competitive and determined to surpass both L and Near in solving the Kira case. Unlike Near's calm and calculated approach, Mello is impulsive and aggressive, often resorting to extreme measures to achieve his goals. He possesses a strong sense of justice but is willing to bend the rules and use morally questionable methods to achieve his ends. Mello's ambition and rivalry with Near drive much of the conflict in the later part of the series, and his emotional intensity adds depth to his character, making him a tragic figure in the battle against Kira.
Teru Mikami is a fervent and dedicated character in the "Death Note" series, selected by Light Yagami as the third Kira. Mikami is an accomplished prosecutor who shares Light's strong sense of justice and becomes obsessed with Kira's mission to rid the world of criminals. He is characterized by his unwavering loyalty and fanatical devotion to Kira, viewing him as a god-like figure who can bring about a righteous and just society. Mikami's intelligence and analytical skills are significant, allowing him to use the Death Note with precision and efficiency to eliminate criminals. His rigid sense of morality and uncompromising determination make him a formidable ally to Light but also contribute to his downfall as the story progresses, ultimately leading to dramatic consequences in the battle against L, Near, and Mello.
Minoru Tanaka is the protagonist of "Death Note: Special One-Shot," a character who inherits the Death Note after the events of the original series. He is portrayed as a highly intelligent and pragmatic individual who approaches the Death Note with caution and creativity. Unlike previous owners, Minoru uses the Death Note not for personal gain or justice but as a means to auction off its powers to the highest bidder, seeking financial gain instead. His resourcefulness, strategic thinking, and ability to adapt to changing circumstances make him a unique and compelling figure in the "Death Note" universe, offering a fresh perspective on the ethical dilemmas and consequences of possessing the Death Note's lethal power.
